Cub Pack #59 Holiday Fun-d-Raising Details!

Scout Families,

"Dashing Through the snow, with a Cub Scout selling wreaths, over the hills we go, asking you to bequeath." Pretty catchy eh?

Yes, we are Fun-d-Raising to earn money for FUN! Did you miss the launch of our fundraiser? No worries. Here are the details. Please remember, your family is not REQUIRED to participate in the fundraiser. If you choose not to participate or simply cannot you should budget money to pay for events as they are planned. Either way works but this is more FUN!

Sherwood Forest Farms Evergreen Fundraiser Details:
  • Pack #59 retains 100% of the profits. Period.
  • Orders are due to me no later than November 11th.
  • Items will arrive the first week in December. Our Pack will manage bulk distribution as a TEAM. Plan to deliver the individual items you sell.
  • Our greatest success thus far is being gained by by approaching larger businesses: wreaths are used to decorate their business location and many employees are buying items for their homes.
  • Your Cubs individual goal is to sell 20 items. Please use this as a teaching opportunity: Speaking to NEW adults, shaking hands, making eye-contact, manners and math are all part of the package!
  • Cubs must be in uniform while soliciting for two reasons: he will be covered by BSA insurance (which you are funding) and his appearance notifies others of his purpose. :)
  • We will recognize your Cubs efforts BIG and SMALL after all the dust settles and the orders have been delivered.
  • For more information or for brochures/support HOLLER at me. :) 575.937.7673.

·        HAPPY FUN-D-Raising!

Sierra Blanca District Scouts Get Dirty While Doing a "Good Turn"

Scouts from Lincoln County partnered with Keep Ruidoso Beautiful to plant trees, flowers and shrubs, while assisting with litter clean up at the very popular Kids Konnection in Ruidoso. Projects of this nature are called Service Projects and are required by Boy Scouts of America. Despite competing with soccer and baseball schedules, Dana Lenzo, Cubmaster for Pack #59 generated a very good turnout and the boys had a dirty ball! Big Thanks to the Keep Ruidoso Beautiful Committee for inviting us to participate.

Spring is Scout recruiting season. If you know a boy who has  completed Kindergarten please invite him and his family to our weekly meetings. If he becomes a Scout your son will receive a referral badge for the introduction!

Say CHEESE!

Cub Scout Pack #59 Meeting Agenda
for

Monday, April 1, 2013

We will begin work toward the Cubs Family Scrapbook requirement during this meeting.

Our innovative CubMaster, Dana Lenzo, has conceived a novel method for completing this specific requirement, with the whole family in mind. Instead of sending Leaders to sort through albums and likely gigabytes of digital photos, Dana will be distributing camera's to the Cubs themselves with instructions for using it to take images, on their own, of their Spring Break experiences. Please make sure your Son is in attendance!

HAPPY EASTER!

Cubs Burn Serious Rubber @ 2013 Pinewood Derby

Monday, March 25th Cub Agenda: A SURPRISE! However, you MUST BRING YOUR SONS CAR. We will be at the Warehouse rather than at the Fellowship Hall.
*******************
2013 Sierra Blanca Pinewood Derby Winners

We watched the Cubs from Sierra Blanca District Burn up our cool electronic track on Saturday at the annual Pinewood Derby, PWD.
ScoutMaster, Kevin Flusche indicated this particular year included a VERY fast group of cars, with the overall 1st Place Winner, Gavin Collins, taking it  only by thousandths of a second.  Many other winners placed within each rank. Once I have their full names and placement I shall post them.

All the Cubs and Leaders were winners for creating these mementos from a piece of wood, four wheels and four axle's.

Traditionally a Father Son activity, many of our Cubs completed their cars under direct supervision of a Mother, Neighbor or Grandparent. The process of creating and then racing these cars will live in the hearts of these Boys for their lifetime.

#59 Flies High @ Airport

Here is our new blog. We will use the blog to provide you with meeting agenda's, upcoming events, reminders and recently completed activities. If you sign up for the email feed, at the very top of this page, you will automatically be sent a weekly update.

We had a very informative and exciting day at the Sierra Blanca Regional Airport in Alto, New Mexico. Sean Parker conducted a complete tour of the entire airport operations including navigation, air traffic control, fire response and the physics of flying!
We learned the airport resources were instrumental during the Little Bear fire providing traffic control, lodging, planes and pilots. We appreciated the stellar view from the Traffic Tower and the thoughtful warning sign, in blue, reading "Watch Out Kevin", prepared especially for our 6'4 Scout Master, Kevin Flusche, who carefully had to enter the shallow door jam of the tower.

We extend gratitude to Mr. Parker and the Staff who truly made this day remarkable!

Monday, March 11th Cub Agenda:
Proper care and handling of the United States flag.

  • The Cubs had a fabulous learning experience due to our guest speaker, State Police Officer, Chad Casson. Officer Casson answered questions about his job and showed us many of the tools and devices he utilizes to keep the public safe. The Cubs were thrilled to see Officer Casson demonstrate the processing of fingerprints, unique to each of us. Thank you Officer Casson!
